European diplomacy sets a date for its meeting with Mexico
The president of the European Council, António Costa, dropped the bomb: the next summit between the European Union and Mexico will be on May 22 in Mexico City. He confirmed it after a call with the president Claudia Sheinbaum.
“Strengthen cooperation based on international law and sustainable growth,” said Costa, making it clear that it is not a mere diplomatic procedure.
What’s on the agenda?
- Trade and investment: the juicy part, the one that moves bills.
- Climate and energy: because the planet does not wait.
- Gender equality, health and research: topics that sound nice but have their downsides.
This meeting seeks to consolidate the common vision between both regions. That is, move from good wishes to concrete agreements. Will they make cooperation transcend paper? We will see.
The truth is that Sheinbaum welcomes Europe into his territory, and Costa arrives with a folder full of priorities. Foreign policy, like theater, has its key moments. This May 22 promises to be one of them.
