Diego Luna sneaks into Rapunzel’s world
Hey, what’s going on? Disney continues to squeeze out its animated catalog and now it’s time for Tangled. But this is not just any remake: Diego Luna has just confirmed that he is joining the live action cast, and not with just any role.
An unprecedented character, who will it be?
According to close sources, the Mexican actor will play a character created especially for this version. That is, it is not Flynn Rider nor a classic secondary. It’s something new, fresh. And that, honestly, makes me curious. A villain? A secret ally? Pascal’s long-lost cousin? Nobody knows yet.
Recordings start in June 2026 in Spain. Yes, you read that right: next year. And the cast is already more than assembled: the Australian Teagan Croft will be Rapunzel, Milo Manheim will play Flynn Rider, and Kathryn Hahn —yes, the one from Agatha All Along— will be the villainous Mother Gothel. A dream team, really.
Will Diego sing?
Here’s the mystery: Disney has not said if the adaptation will maintain the musical format or if Luna will have to release her voice. But considering his current status – established star after Narcos: México and Andor – it is likely that his character will have weight in the plot. In other words, they don’t bring it just to make a big deal.
“Although it is unclear if Luna will be required to sing, it is likely that she will have a significant role in the story, considering the star status she has established in recent years.”
My take
Look, Disney’s live actions are a double-edged sword: sometimes they are gems (Cinderella from 2015), others are… well, The Lion King from 2019. But that they add a new character for an actor with the talent of Diego Luna gives me hope. It’s not just cheap nostalgia; is expanding the universe. And with that cast, the vibes are good.
What do you think? Are you excited to see Luna in this fairy tale or are we already tired of remakes? I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt. As long as they don’t use crazy autotune, everything is fine.
