Tragedy in Escuinapa
CULIACAN, Sin. — The death of Grecia Guadalupe «N», a 14-year-old para-athlete, and her uncle Arturo Ramiro «N», a baseball player and municipal sports official, which occurred in an armed confrontation, has generated outrage and demands for justice.
Both were traveling on a motorcycle to the IMSS – she needed attention for a scorpion sting – when they were shot. The feminist collective Orquídeas Moradas called for a march next Sunday in Escuinapa to demand an end to the violence.
Call to the authorities
The state Women’s Secretariat asked that those responsible be brought to justice. “No girl or adolescent should have their right to a life free of violence violated,” said the agency, which offered support to the family.
The activists disapproved of the facts and recalled that Grecia was an outstanding para-athlete, while her uncle was recognized in the local sports field. The Sinaloa community is mourning this double loss.
The march, dressed in black, seeks to make visible the security crisis in the region. The authorities have not yet reported any arrests.
