Colima reports a drop in homicides and secures a ton of fentanyl

The governor of Colima presents crime reduction figures and highlights coordination with the federal government on security.

A speech about numbers and coordination in the morning

Governor Indira Vizcaíno did not arrive at Claudia Sheinbaum’s conference in Manzanillo with empty promises. It came with data. And in the theater of security policy, numbers are the script everyone wants to hear.

From the beginning, it emphasized coordination as the cornerstone. It’s not just a nice speech for the cameras. She insists that it is what allows social programs and infrastructure to advance without being sabotaged by violence.

“We always look for ways to join forces… We look for how, yes, how we do more,” said Vizcaíno Silva.

But here’s the interesting thing: when he talks about coordination, he talks specifically about the Armed Forces. He recalled that at the head of the state Public Security Secretariat there is a member of the Navy. He thanked the support for the appointment of Lieutenant Fabián Ricardo Gómez Calvario. It is a clear move: militarize the civilian command to shield the strategy.

The numbers that seek to change the narrative

And then came the heavy artillery: the numbers. By 2025, Colima reports a dramatic drop in almost all horror indicators.

  • Intentional homicide: -26%
  • Femicide: -50%
  • Kidnapping: -60%
  • Extortion: -21%

These are percentages that, if sustained, paint a radically different picture from previous years. But one piece of information overshadows all the others: the operation in Villa de Álvarez.

There were not only arrests there. A laboratory was dismantled and more than 270 kilos of fentanyl were seized. The governor translated it into crude language: there are more than 14 million doses that will not reach the streets.

It is a huge media victory. Securing that amount is not a routine operation; It is a blow to the financial heart of organized crime.

In the end, his message was one of forced unity. > “The issue of public security is an issue in which the entire society… must be united,” he concluded.

But behind the “all together” there is a reality: the strategy depends, now more than ever, on the muscle and military structure. The numbers are the argument to justify that bet.

Earthquakes in Chiapas trigger an emergency; woman is injured

Foreign woman falls from the third floor after earthquakes of 7.4 and 5.8 in Chiapas. Authorities report white balance.

Earthquake triggers emergency in Tapachula

Two consecutive earthquakes of 7.4 and 5.8 shook Chiapas this morning, leaving one woman injured. The person, of foreign origin, fell from the third floor after having a nervous breakdown during the first earthquake.

The first earthquake occurred at 8:48 a.m., with the epicenter 135 kilometers southwest of Ciudad Hidalgo, on the border with Guatemala. The woman, who lived in a building in the Teófilo Acebo neighborhood, became desperate and fell into the void, suffering serious injuries. Civil Protection paramedics and Municipal Police attended the scene.

Second movement and evacuations

Thirty minutes later, while they were responding to the incident, a second earthquake of magnitude 5.8 was recorded in the same area. The authorities evacuated the building to avoid further risks.

The State Civil Protection System activated emergency protocols throughout Chiapas. In Tuxtla Gutiérrez and other cities, public and private buildings were evacuated. So far, no fatalities have been reported, only the injured woman.

The movements were noticeable in Guatemala, Belize and El Salvador, where monitoring was activated. The Tsunami Warning Center of the Ministry of the Navy issued an alert for the coasts of Chiapas and Oaxaca due to possible variations in sea level.

Former governor Ruffo Appel arrested for fuel smuggling network

The former governor of Baja California is arrested for alleged fuel smuggling and organized crime.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) confirmed the arrest of the former governor of Baja California, Ernesto Ruffo Appel, for his alleged participation in a fuel smuggling network. The announcement was made this Friday during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning conference.

The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, explained that the investigation began after the seizure of 33 ferrotanks. The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO) identified what it described as one of the largest fuel smuggling networks detected by the authorities.

“It is an investigation that begins after the seizure of the 33 rail tankers. The FEMDO analysis manages to identify this network, which is one of the largest fuel smuggling networks. It is an investigation that lasted more than a year,” said García Harfuch.

Eight arrest warrants

The official reported that eight arrest warrants were served this Thursday. He clarified that there are still more judicial orders to be executed, so the investigations continue.

The illicit scheme consisted of entering fuel into the country and reporting only 10% of the actual capacity transported in the tank railways. In this way, controls and tax obligations were evaded, according to the investigation.

“It is an ongoing investigation, it is not yet finished, but it is an investigation of more than a year by the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic,” stressed the head of the SSPC.

The actions of the FGR and the SSPC reflect the government’s commitment to combating fiscal huachicol and fuel smuggling, which have seriously affected the country’s economy and the integrity of the institutions. Authorities continue to work to dismantle this network and bring all those involved to justice.

Mara Lezama supports Sheinbaum: ‘We have a lot of presidents’

The governor highlighted the reduction of debt and a record investment in public works.

From Air Base No. 12 in Tulum, the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, expressed her support for President Claudia Sheinbaum. He did so during the morning conference on July 17.

“Let it be extremely clear: we have a lot of presidents and we are very proud of her leadership,” said Lezama.

The state leader thanked Sheinbaum for his actions to resolve needs in the territory. He also highlighted advances in the economy, infrastructure, education, health and recreation.

Debt reduction and more investment

Quintana Roo climbed to fourth place nationally in financial solidity, according to Lezama. He attributed the achievement to the reduction of public debt.

“This translates into greater confidence, investment and solidity for public works. This year alone, the State’s investment will be greater than the entire previous six-year period,” he noted.

In public works, he highlighted roads, avenues, strengthening hospitals and the installation of domes in 300 schools. Public transportation was also improved to make it more efficient and with less environmental impact.

Tourism and sports in the 11 municipalities

Lezama reported on the simultaneous inauguration of 46 sports fields in the 11 municipalities. He described it as part of a legacy in the social field.

At the beginning of the conference, President Sheinbaum announced that tourism improvements for the state would be announced, in addition to the security report by the federal cabinet.
