Cocaine changes route to flood Europe
The figures are brutal. The flow of this white substance to Europe does not stop growing, driven by Latin American production at maximum levels and European demand that cannot be satisfied. Europol warned this Tuesday: we are facing unprecedented levels.
And with that record volume, criminal networks are accelerating their transformation. It’s not just about moving more product; is to move it differently, smarter and harder to track.
How do you avoid the controls?
The answer is simple: they avoid large ports. Faced with the reinforcement of surveillance in giants such as Antwerp, Hamburg or Rotterdam, traffickers have turned the helm.
Now they prefer alternative routes, much more stealthy. One of the most worrying is transshipments on the high seas, off the coast of West Africa.
From there, the shipments are transferred to the European continent or directly to the Canary Islands.
This strategy allows them to avoid port radars without having to reduce the volume of illicit business even one gram. It’s a game of cat and mouse, where the mouse is getting very creative.
For Europol, the solution involves one thing: coordination. The organization insists that only a joint and well-coordinated response between EU countries can confront this monster.
International collaboration is not an option; It is the only tool to dismantle these networks that are already a serious public safety problem. The report is clear: we are losing ground.
What is most worrying is not only the new route, but what it represents: the extreme adaptability of organized crime. While the authorities focus on one point, they are already opening three new holes in the mesh.
The situation requires constant vigilance and agile responses. Because if this report shows anything, it is that the old formulas no longer work. The traffic map has been redrawn, and Europe is at the center of the target.
