Sheinbaum presents the Ballon d’Or
President Claudia Sheinbaum attended the 2026 World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New York. Accompanied by Donald Trump, Mark Carney and Gianni Infantino, she witnessed the match where Spain beat Argentina 1-0.
The Mexican president presented the Ballon d’Or to the best player of the tournament, Rodrigo Hernández, captain of the Spanish team. He also participated in the awards ceremony, greeting players and referees.
“We show that, when we work together, we are capable of making great projects a reality and leaving a legacy of cooperation, friendship and hope for the world,” Sheinbaum wrote on social networks.
He highlighted that the World Cup was a symbol of joy, emotion and unity between people. He congratulated the Mexican National Team for its performance and Spain for the title.
Trump and Infantino were greeted with boos from the fans when they appeared on the field. Sheinbaum, on the other hand, remained in the box with Melania Trump and Mark Carney.
This was the first World Cup match that the president attended. He had given away his ticket for the inauguration at the Mexico City Stadium on June 11, where Mexico faced South Africa.
At the end of the meeting, he reiterated that sport brings nations together and that Mexico demonstrated organizational capacity together with the United States and Canada.
