The State Coordination of Civil Protection issued a preventive notice to the Veracruz population in the face of the adverse weather conditions that are expected during the next 24 hours, characterized by the presence of fog, drizzle, rain and isolated storms, with greatest impact in the southern region of the state.
Meteorologist José Llanos Arias warned that these phenomena could cause damage such as roof loss, falling trees and spectacular signs, as well as flooding, flooding, landslides and possible interruptions in strategic services, for which he urged citizens to take extreme precautions.
He recalled that Veracruz remains under the Early Warning System in its “Gray Alert” action phase, which is why he recommended that the population stay informed through official channels and heed the instructions of the authorities.
In the forecast by region, fog, drizzle and isolated rain are expected for the northern part of the state, with estimated accumulations of between 5 and 15 millimeters. Northerly winds will reach speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, with gusts of up to 75 km/h in coastal areas, decreasing during the night.
In the central mountainous region, rainfall is expected with accumulations of 5 to 20 millimeters, without ruling out larger records in isolation. Winds will range between 15 and 25 km/h, with gusts of up to 50 km/h in elevated areas such as Xalapa and the Perote Valley.
For the central plains and coasts, the forecast indicates light and scattered rains, while northerly winds could reach speeds of 60 to 75 km/h, with intense gusts of between 90 and 105 km/h at beach level.
The southern region of the state will be the most affected, with isolated rains and storms, general accumulations of 5 to 20 millimeters and maximum values of between 70 and 150 millimeters in areas of Los Tuxtlas and in the basins of the Coatzacoalcos and Tonalá rivers. In the upper part of the Papaloapan basin, accumulations of 50 to 70 millimeters are expected. North winds will remain between 50 and 60 km/h, with gusts of up to 85 km/h on the coastal strip.
The specialist added that during the rest of the week a mild to cold environment will persist, with the probability of frost at dawn in high areas of the state, as well as light rains in mountainous regions and the south of Veracruz.
Finally, the State Civil Protection Coordination reiterated the call to the population to remain alert, follow official recommendations and take preventive measures, especially in communities located in risk areas.
