Users of combi-type public transport expressed their annoyance at the recent increase in the fare, which went from 7 to 12 pesos in the general charge, an adjustment that – they say – began to be applied without prior notice since Monday morning on different routes in the capital of Veracruz.
During a survey carried out among passengers, a user who travels daily from the San Bruno neighborhood to the city center pointed out that the increase was excessive and took those who use this service by surprise. “It’s wrong, but that’s what we have to pay,” he said, regretting that there was no prior notice from the dealers or the authorities.
According to the testimonies collected, the new rate was established at 12 pesos for the general ticket, while the preferential charge for students and seniors remains at 7 pesos, as long as they present the corresponding credential.
Service drivers acknowledged that the adjustment has generated mixed opinions among users. Antonio Mendoza, operator of route 1, known as the blue route, explained that while some passengers consider the increase fair, others assure that the change has a direct impact on their economy.
The operator pointed out that the change in the rate occurs after approximately 14 years without increases, a period similar to that recorded in urban transportation. “Some say it’s fine, others say it affects them because the jump was a lot, from 7 to 12 pesos,” he commented.
Likewise, he indicated that historically the combis have had a higher cost compared to the urban truck, a situation that is now equal in the preferential charging. However, he clarified that so far they have not received information about possible adjustments during the holiday period.
The increase has generated expectations among users, who are waiting for an official statement from the Public Transportation authorities to clarify whether the increase has due authorization and under what conditions it will be applied generally on the different routes in the state capital.
