Inflationary adjustment raises urban transportation rates in Xalapa to 12 pesos
The governor of Veracruz, Rocío Nahle García, explained that the recent increase in the fare of urban public transportation in Xalapa, which went from 9 to 12 pesos, responds to an inflationary adjustment and the general increase in costs faced by concessionaires, particularly after the salary increase applied at the national level as of January 1.
When interviewed on the subject, the state president explained that the concessionaires presented a financial run that showed that the current rate in the state capital was well below inflation, a situation that caused several units to stop circulating due to lack of economic viability.
“Xalapa had fallen very low in the fare. They had had a fare of 9 pesos for years and, due to the kilometers traveled, it was no longer enough. There were even vehicles stopped because they could not operate,” explained the governor.
Rocío Nahle specified that the authorized adjustment was exclusive to Xalapa and that a general increase is not contemplated in other municipalities, since in various cities in the state the cost of the ticket is higher, even reaching 15 pesos.
In relation to vulnerable sectors, he reported that the preferential ticket for older adults and students had a minimal increase, going from 6 to 7 pesos, with the aim of maintaining a scheme of social justice and avoiding a significant impact on these groups.
The governor stressed that the adjustment seeks to balance the operation of public transportation, guarantee the continuity of the service and avoid the reduction of units in circulation, always considering the economic impact on citizens.
Finally, he reiterated that his administration maintains permanent monitoring throughout the state to make responsible decisions, strengthen institutions and ensure that the rule of law prevails, as well as the security and well-being of the people of Veracruz.
