The national leader of the Citizen Movement, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, proposed three citizen profiles for the electoral competition in Sinaloa: Juan Pablo Castañón Castañón, Bosco de la Vega and Sergio Esquer Peiró. The proposal arises amid the political turbulence that the entity is going through, with accusations from the United States government against the licensed governor, Rubén Rocha Moya, and nine other current and former officials.
In a meeting with the new state leadership of the party – headed by former agricultural leader Sergio Esquer Peiró -, Álvarez Máynez pointed out that the security, economic and political credibility crisis requires public figures with a clean track record and image.
“Citizen profiles with a track record and image that contribute to a new political model are required,” he expressed.
The leader considered that there is a lack of a call for dialogue and the reconstruction of the social fabric for pacification in Sinaloa. In addition, he questioned the federal government’s response to the United States accusations.
“Instead of asking for evidence, they should have called to testify about the accusations,” he said in a radio interview.
Álvarez Máynez also linked the international accusations to a pattern of excesses in the entity. He recalled that three mayors from the governor’s same party were removed and faced legal action. “What we live is not a coincidence,” he said.
The leader of the Citizen Movement warned that the requests for arrests and extraditions by the United States — which include a governor, a mayor, a senator and other officials — show that Mexico is not doing its internal work and favors impunity.
“This means that Mexico does not do its internal work and privileges impunity,” he declared.
Finally, Álvarez Máynez highlighted that Sinaloa not only faces a crisis of impunity, but also violence and economic crisis. He insisted that the interference of criminal groups in electoral processes is not an isolated event, and demanded that the government act and investigate the actions of the rulers.
