Remnants of Boris and Cristina under monitoring
The National Weather Service (SMN) reported that Storm Boris has weakened to a remaining low pressure. According to the report:
“Boris is located on land 75 km north-northwest of Punta Maldonado and 105 km east of Acapulco, Guerrero. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h, gusts of 65 km/h and movement towards the northwest at 11 km/h.”
This system maintains the potential for heavy rain. Very heavy punctual rainfall (50 to 75 mm) is forecast in the south of Jalisco, Colima, the coast of Michoacán, southeast and east of Guerrero and west of Oaxaca. Heavy rains (25 to 50 mm) are also expected in the southwest of Puebla, State of Mexico, west and southwest of Mexico City and Morelos.
In parallel, the SMN monitors tropical storm Cristina. At the moment it does not represent a risk for Mexican coasts. It is located 160 km west-northwest of Managua, Nicaragua, and 540 km east-southeast of the mouth of the Suchiate River, border with Guatemala. Its maximum winds reach 65 km/h with gusts of 85 km/h and remains stationary.
Meteorological authorities recommend that the population stay informed about the evolution of both systems. The expected rains could cause waterlogging and flooding in low-lying areas.
