Another one for the Bavarian showcase!
Bayern Munich already has its trophy. This Sunday, with a clear 4-2 victory over Stuttgart, the German giant mathematically secured its 35th national championship. Four rounds remain, but the 15-point advantage over Borusia Dortmund is an abyss.
The celebration was somewhat contained. None of the typical beer showers on the lawn. The mind is already set on what is coming: a possible historic triplet.
“It is not – we hope not – the last title,” said Herbert Hainer, president of the club. “We are in the semifinals of the Cup and Champions League.”
A match with the mind elsewhere
Vincent Kompany made eight changes compared to the team that played against Real Madrid in the Champions League. Manuel Neuer and Harry Kane started on the bench. The priority was clear: take care of the figures for the decisive duels.
Even so, the team showed its power. Stuttgart took the lead with a great goal from Chris Führich, but the response was devastating: three goals in six minutes before the break, the work of Guerreiro, Jackson and Davies.
Kane came on in the second half and, as usual, scored. His 32nd goal in the league served to break another record: Bayern surpassed 109 goals in a Bundesliga season, surpassing the mark of the legendary team of Beckenbauer and Müller.
Now, the sights are set on Leverkusen. A pass to the final of the German Cup is played on Wednesday. Then PSG will come in the Champions League. The season can be epic… or just another title for the collection.
The real test begins now.
