Lyon sinks PSG and climbs to the Ligue 1 podium

Lyon deals a blow to leader PSG and climbs to third place, with Endrick as a key figure in the Parc des Princes.

An earthquake Sunday in the Parc des Princes

The leader stumbled where he least expected it. Olympique Lyon, led by Paulo Fonseca, traveled to Paris and came out with a golden victory: 2-1. A result that is not only three points, it is a message to the entire league.

The big night had a Brazilian name: Endrick. The forward, recently criticized by his coach, responded on the field. He opened the scoring after six minutes with a lethal break and an unstoppable shot. Twelve minutes later, he was the mastermind of the second goal, setting up Afonso Moreira after a quick start.

“Lyon was a fair winner,” admitted Luis Enrique, the PSG coach, who hugged Fonseca at the end of the match.

PSG found themselves outplayed at their own home. Dominik Greif saved a penalty from Gonçalo Ramos and Vitinha’s injury complicated things even more for the Parisians. A goal from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in added time only served to disguise the score.

The fight for Europe heats up

This victory catapults Lyon to third place, overtaking Lille on goal difference. It is a key position, because the first three go directly to the group stage of the Champions League. The fourth will have to play a preview.

For PSG, it is their fifth defeat in the league. Their advantage over Lens, second, is reduced to a single point. And they still have to visit them in May. The crown is not so sure.

Further down the table, other names shined. Folarin Balogun of Monaco scored for the eighth game in a row to overcome a 2-0 deficit and achieve a draw against Auxerre. An impressive scoring streak.

In Rennes, Esteban Lepaul scored again and is now the competition’s top scorer with 17 goals. His team won 3-0 and remains firmly in the fight for Europe.

What seemed like just another day became a turning point. Lyon showed character, Endrick silenced criticism and Ligue 1 promises an electrifying end to the season.

United States falls to Türkiye but manages to qualify

Dramatic 3-2 at SoFi Stadium does not prevent the United States from reaching the round of 32.

The United States team lost 3-2 to Türkiye at SoFi Stadium, but secured its ticket to the round of 32. The European team said goodbye to the tournament with a victory in its last match.

Party development

The game started at a slow pace. In the 2nd minute, Auston Trusty took advantage of a corner kick to open the scoring. Türkiye reacted quickly: in the 10th minute, Arda Güler, from Real Madrid, equalized after a defensive oversight.

The United States tried to regain the lead, but a goal disallowed for offside in the 29th minute baffled them. Türkiye capitalized: in the 32nd minute, Orkun Kökçü turned the score around (2-1). With that result the first half ended, amid complaints from the Los Angeles fans.

In the second half, Sebastián Berhalter equalized in the 48th minute to make it 2-2. The US coach sent Alejandro Zendejas to the field to look for greater offensive depth, but an injury to Trusty in the 90th minute threw the defense out of balance. In stoppage time, Kaan Ayhan scored the final 3-2.
