A great goal of mentality
The Champions League does not forgive. And Bayern Munich understood it perfectly this Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabéu. With a victory worked hard, suffered and full of character, the Germans took a key victory (2-1) in the first leg of the quarterfinals against Real Madrid.
The big news before the game was the presence of Harry Kane. The forward, who was suffering from discomfort, not only played, but was decisive. He scored a great goal and created the first move.
“We knew that coming to Madrid and trying to get a result is always difficult,” Kane admitted after the match. “We did really good things.”
Resilience has a Colombian name
At 41 minutes, after a wall between Kane and Serge Gnabry, it was time for Luis Díaz. The Colombian received inside the area, remained calm against Andriy Lunin and defined with an impeccable low shot. A goal of pure craft.
Kane would close his big night at the beginning of the second half. A first-class volley from outside the area that slipped into the corner. His eleventh goal in this Champions League, equaling his best record.
Madrid reacted with a goal from Kylian Mbappé, but found a Manuel Neuer in front of them in a state of grace. The veteran goalkeeper was key to maintaining the result.
The Madrid coach, Álvaro Arbeola, made it clear that they are not throwing in the towel:
“We are alive, it is clear. We are one goal away. We are capable of winning on any field.”
The return will be next week in Munich. Bayern is seeking its first semifinal since that same Madrid eliminated it in 2023-24. History repeats itself, but with the roles changed… for now.
Meanwhile, in the other match on Tuesday, Arsenal beat Sporting Lisbon 0-1. This Wednesday comes more excitement with Barcelona-Atlético and Liverpool-PSG.
A night that showed that, beyond the stars, what counts is the team. The discipline. The mentality to hold on when the rival stadium burns. That is not trained with hashtags, it is lived on the field.
