Bayern Munich celebrated the Bundesliga title with a 5-1 win over Cologne on the final day. Harry Kane led the party with a hat trick that leaves him just five goals shy of the league’s all-time record (41), set by Robert Lewandowski in the 2020-21 season.
Kane now has 36 goals in his personal tally, while the team reached 122 goals in total. He thus surpassed the previous Bundesliga record of 101, which dated back to the 1971-72 season, when Bayern itself had figures such as Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller.
Leon Goretzka, who leaves the club after eight seasons, scored the goal that broke that record with five games left. After the game, sports director Max Eberl highlighted the unity of the group:
“We have a great group, a great union, and celebrating success with that is incredible.”
With this conquest, Bayern extends its hegemony in Germany. Since 2012, only undefeated Bayer Leverkusen in 2024 has prevented the Bavarian club from winning every Bundesliga.
French winger Michael Olise was named player of the season after scoring 15 goals and 22 assists in 32 games. Vincent Kompany’s team secured the title four dates in advance, but the trophy presentation – the traditional “salad bowl” – did not take place until this Saturday.
Captain Manuel Neuer, who extended his contract for a year on Friday, handed the trophy to Goretzka to hoist. Queen’s “We Are The Champions” played, confetti exploded and the beer showers began. Defender Dayot Upamecano soaked Kompany, who later reunited with his family on the sideline.
Joshua Kimmich, Bayern midfielder, commented:
“Today it’s good to celebrate a little. Then we have a week and then we will be totally focused on the cup final.”
Bayern will face reigning champions Stuttgart in the German Cup final next Saturday at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
