The end of a controversial chapter, with table included
Under cries of “You are not alone!” and “Mario (Delgado) out of the SEP!” Marx Arriaga, the former general director of Educational Materials, packed his things and left. This Tuesday, after 100 hours literally barricaded in his offices, he received the paper that formally fired him. His departure was not discreet.
The last thing he did before boarding the Metro in Coyoacán was load the paintings that decorated his space. Among them, one of the philosopher who lends him his name. A symbolic detail for an official who arrived in 2019 appointed by Delfina Gómez Álvarez and leaves amid accusations and an open investigation.
“There was never a request for anything. What we were looking for was social justice, not to get rich, and we left as we came,”
Arriaga declared to the media. He categorically denied accusations of wrongdoing and improper treatment, attributing them to “slander by conservative newspapers.” He insisted that his management always had a goal: social justice.
Meanwhile, the Internal Control Body continues to investigate other officials who resigned earlier. Arriaga claims to have nothing to do with these irregularities.
And now what?
This closes an intense and media episode within the secretariat. The replacement already has a name: Nadia López, indigenous pedagogue and poet. She will take the reins of management and will be in charge of continuing to implement the New Mexican School.
The question that remains is whether this change will bring calm or is just the interlude before the next scandal. In this game, the official versions are usually only part of the story.
