The governor of Veracruz, Norma Rocío Nahle García, announced that during this year the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Xalapeño stadium will be carried out, an emblematic venue in the state capital that recently celebrated 100 years of history and that has been a benchmark for Veracruz sports at the national level.
During her participation in the People’s Conference, headed by the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the state leader reported that the project to modernize the property—located in front of the Veracruzana University—is fully defined and contemplates the total volume of work necessary for its rescue.
Nahle García announced that she held a dialogue with the director of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (Conade), Romel Pacheco, to whom she raised the possibility of making the stadium available to said agency once the work was completed, with the purpose of Xalapa once again hosting national sporting events, as it was for decades.
“We are going to rehabilitate the stadium this year, we already have everything: the complete project and the volume of work. The idea is to make it available to Conade so that sporting events can return,” said the governor.
He specified that the work could be completed within a period of seven to eight months, with only pending certification of the change of the tartan track, an essential requirement to host official competitions.
The state president pointed out that the proposal was well received by the head of Conade, who promised to present it to the President of the Republic, as part of a strategy to strengthen the country’s sports infrastructure towards future events of great relevance.
Nahle García stressed that the main objective is for the stadium to be used by the people of Veracruz, but also for it to recover its national projection, returning Xalapa to its historical character as the venue for important sports events.
Finally, he announced that the rehabilitation works will begin in March, giving way to a new stage of rescue and modernization of one of the most representative sports spaces in Veracruz.
