Collectives and prosecutors face threats during search
Members of search groups and officials of the Guanajuato Prosecutor’s Office suffered intimidation by criminal groups during efforts to locate Lorenza Cano Flores, a missing activist whose remains could have been found in a clandestine grave in Villagrán. The operation allowed the recovery of several bodies, although formal identification still requires genetic analysis.
Context of the case and criminal resistance
Prosecutor Gerardo Vázquez Alatorre confirmed that, despite the threats, the human remains were rescued. “There were risks during the review, but we prioritized the recovery of the victims,” he declared. Lorenza, a member of the collective “Salamanca Unidos Searching for Disappeared”, was kidnapped in January 2024 along with the murder of her family. He was looking for his brother, missing since 2018.
Authorities avoid disclosing details due to investigation protocols, although it was confirmed that the remains could correspond to Lorenza. At the same time, a fraud linked to false recruitment by the Honda company and illegal trafficking of weapons is being investigated, the latter in coordination with federal authorities.
