One of those actors that you recognized instantly left us
Matt Clark, that guy with the look of having seen things—and who had actually seen them on screen alongside Clint Eastwood and John Wayne—died. He was 89 years old. He died Sunday at his home in Austin, Texas, from complications following back surgery, his family confirmed to TMZ.
His name may not sound familiar to you, but his face does. He was one of those character actors who populated film and TV for decades, giving weight and truth to each scene.
“He especially valued collaborating with people who were upright and close to their families,” said his loved ones.
A resume that is a journey through time
Where did you see it? It can be anywhere. He was the waiter in ‘Back to the Future III’. He played Sheriff Baggett in the comedy ‘Grace Under Fire’. He sneaked into the eighties cult classic ‘The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai’.
But his natural terrain was the western. There he shared credits with the legends. He also appeared in series that defined eras: ‘Bonanza’, ‘Kung Fu’, ‘Dynasty’.
They describe him as an authentic actor, passionate about the job but far from the circus of fame. A professional who, according to his family, lived and died on his own terms. A piece of that hard-working, no-shrill Hollywood is leaving us.
