The official version: a perfect deployment, a masterstroke
General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, Secretary of Defense, today painted a picture of surgical precision. In a conference, he detailed how, after the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, ‘El Mencho’, his key man also fell. Hugo ‘H’, alias ‘El Tuli’, logistics and financial operator of the CJNG.
According to the official story, it all started with military intelligence. It was learned that ‘El Tuli’ was in El Grullo, Jalisco. From there, he coordinated roadblocks, attacks on military installations and offered rewards for lives.
“He also offered 20 thousand pesos for each soldier who murdered all the personnel of this criminal group,” stated the general.
The response was a special forces airmobile unit. When located, ‘El Tuli’ tried to escape in a vehicle and attacked the staff. The aftershock was lethal.
What they found: the spoils of war
In the vehicle, according to Sedena, there were two weapons (short and long), cartridges, chargers and… a lot of cash. More than 7 million Mexican pesos and almost a million dollars.
Everything confiscated, they assured, was delivered to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime Crimes. An impeccable administrative procedure to close the chapter.
The narrative is neat: precise intelligence, rapid deployment, neutralization of the target. A script that we have heard before in other official rooms. The question that remains floating in the air at the Treasury is simpler: what next? Because cartels have longer memories than news cycles.
