Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveled to Sweden this Thursday to meet with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. The objective: strengthen defense cooperation between both countries.
They prepare a new military package
Governments are working on an important military package. The possible supply of Gripen fighters to Ukraine is one of the central points. Zelenskyy reported on social networks that the agreement seeks to expand Ukrainian defensive capabilities in the context of the conflict with Russia.
The international defense cooperation strategy promoted by kyiv also includes the use of drones during the war. Sweden, a member of NATO since 2024, has been a key ally in the supply of military material.
The visit comes at a critical time, when Ukraine needs to strengthen its air defense against Russian attacks. The Swedish-made Gripen fighters are considered a viable option to modernize the Ukrainian fleet.
Both leaders also discussed the possibility of training Ukrainian pilots in Sweden. The Swedish government has not confirmed deadlines or quantities, but talks are progressing.
Zelenskyy thanked Sweden for its support and reiterated the urgency of receiving more anti-aircraft systems and ammunition. The visit reinforces the support network that Ukraine seeks to maintain in the face of the prolongation of the conflict.
