From January 26 to 31, the capital of Veracruz will host the National Selective of Speed Cycling, a competition that will take place in the velodrome and will bring together about 350 athletes from all over the country, reported the director of Municipal Tourism, Eduardo Blanco Guillaumin.
The official highlighted that this event represents the beginning of the sports tourism agenda promoted by the Municipal Tourism Directorate, in coordination with the Veracruzano Sports Institute and the Mexican Cycling Federation, with the aim of positioning Xalapa as a strategic destination for national competitions.
He pointed out that this is a high-level competitive event, from which the national speed cycling team will emerge, so the participation of athletes from various entities of the Republic is expected, from Baja California to Quintana Roo.
Blanco Guillaumin stressed that one of the main purposes of this type of activities is to attract federated sports tourism, which implies the constant arrival of athletes, coaches and companions, generating an important economic benefit for the city.
In this sense, he indicated that the event will be free and open to the public, and called on the citizens of Xalapa to attend and support the competitors. Likewise, he explained that they work in a coordinated manner with the hotel, restaurant and business sectors, in order to offer preferential rates, agreements with restaurants and tourist services that provide a comprehensive experience to visitors.
The director of Municipal Tourism estimated an approximate influx of 1,200 people during the development of the Selective, considering that many athletes will attend accompanied by family, coaches and support staff.
Finally, he reported that Veracruz will be represented by around 20 competitors, who will seek a place in the national team, and reiterated the invitation to the population to enjoy a high-level sporting event that, in addition to promoting sports, boosts the economy and tourism in the state capital.
