The state of Veracruz maintains two declarations of Gender Violence Alert against Women, which are attended to permanently through multidisciplinary inter-institutional groups and in coordination with the three levels of government, reported the director of the Veracruz Women’s Institute (IVM), Zaira Fabiola del Toro Olivares.
In an interview, the official explained that the Program for Attention to Femicidal Violence and Attention to the Causes was recently launched in Mexico City, promoted by the Women’s Secretariat, headed by Citlali Hernández, which is articulated in three main axes: the strengthening of the State Justice Centers for Women, assistance in the attention of gender alerts and the reinforcement of shelters for women in situations of violence.
Del Toro Olivares stressed that these public policies seek to guarantee that actions reach women directly, ensuring their right to a life free of violence through coordinated work between the federation, the state and the municipalities.
In relation to the possible third Gender Violence Alert, linked to the disappearance of people, the head of the IVM indicated that the conclusions issued by the State Search Commission continue to be addressed. He added that, after the recent change of municipal administrations, a rapprochement will be established with the city councils for the installation of municipal search groups and the correct application of care and prevention protocols.
Regarding the dissemination of search sheets, he clarified that their issuance corresponds to the Search Commission and not to the IVM, which participates only in their responsible dissemination. She pointed out that in some cases it is necessary to protect the identity of women sheltered in shelters, since there are situations in which aggressors request files in order to locate them.
In terms of prevention, he highlighted that the Institute has reinforced its work in schools and communities, in coordination with mothers, fathers and authorities, to identify risks such as dating or family violence, as well as to warn about dangers on social networks, especially for girls and adolescents.
Finally, he recalled that the Veracruzano Women’s Institute provides permanent care 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, through the state line 075 and the national line 079, option 1, where specialized care and guidance is offered for women who require support or referral to the corresponding instances.
