An economic goal for the State of Mexico
The countdown to the 2026 World Cup has already begun, and for the State of Mexico it sounds like a cash register. SEDECO projects a brutal economic impact: 7,960 million pesos. That’s almost half a billion dollars coming into the local economy.
“An economic benefit for the State of Mexico is estimated at 460 million dollars,” commented Laura González Hernández, head of the agency.
Where will this impact be seen? Everywhere. Hotels near Felipe Ángeles Airport (AIFA) and Toluca Airport (AIT) are about to be full. The demand is already very high.
“We are close to reaching the top in hotels in the metropolitan area,” anticipated González Hernández.
But it won’t just be watching games on giant screens. The plan is to take visitors to live unique experiences. Teotihuacán will be a magnet, and strategies will be activated in the Magical Towns.
New routes to taste Mexico
Here comes the good thing. So that fans can experience more than football, two spectacular tourist routes will be launched.
The Mezcal Route will take you to see nearly 80 distillation factories. You will be able to see the entire process, from the heart of the agave to the glass. A journey for the senses.
The Flower Route promises to be something never seen before. It will be “the only tourist experience that exists in the country of this type”, according to the official. A total immersion in color and aroma.
“There will be important dissemination… to direct people to a close experience,” he added.
The first excursions will begin in the coming weeks. It is a project in stages, which will grow over time. The goal is clear: to turn the World Cup visit into an indelible memory of the State of Mexico.
More than a sporting event, it will be an economic and cultural festival. Local businesses, from the small restaurant to the hotelier, are ready to receive this aerial ball… and put it in the back of the net.
