One of the largest drone attacks carried out by Ukraine against Russian territory left at least four dead and a dozen injured, including civilians near Moscow. This was reported by Russian authorities this Sunday.
The offensive reached several areas around the Russian capital and caused damage to buildings and infrastructure. A woman died after a drone hit in the city of Khimki. Two men died in a town north of the capital, and a worker originally from India lost his life in another attack in the Moscow region.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said at least 12 people were injured and drone debris fell near the city’s main refinery.
Ukrainian response and official reaction
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the attacks. He claimed they were “fully justified” in response to recent Russian bombings of kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.
“The drones traveled more than 500 kilometers and managed to overcome part of the Russian air defense systems.”
The Russian Ministry of Defense assured that during the night more than a thousand drones were shot down or interfered with over different regions of the country, Crimea and areas near the Black Sea. Drone debris was also reported falling at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport, although without affecting air operations.
Russian counteroffensive on Ukraine
Meanwhile, Russia continued its attacks on Ukrainian territory with the launch of 287 drones during the early hours of the morning. kyiv authorities reported that eight people were injured in the Dnipropetrovsk and Krivoy Rog regions, in addition to damage to homes and residential buildings.
Analysts consider that the escalation shows that both countries are waging an increasingly intense war, far from any immediate possibility of peace negotiations.
