Farewell to Doña Gela
The musician Cruz Martínez, known as the Kumbia King, shared on Instagram the departure of his mother, María de los Ángeles Martínez. Doña Gela, as those close to her called her, died after choosing the date of her departure herself: the day of birth of her son Danny, who died four years ago.
In a series of photographs, he showed his mother at different stages of her life, along with her grandchildren and siblings. The message was accompanied by a profound text.
“Today my heart says goodbye to the most important woman in my life, my mother, the woman who gave me life, who loved me with all her heart and who never stopped fighting, no matter how difficult the road was.”
Cruz highlighted her mother’s efforts as a single mother. Without parental support, she worked to support her five children.
“As a single mother, you raised five children, with a strength that only God could give you; you taught us that life is not always fair, but that we should never give up.”
The producer also pointed out that Mrs. Gela wanted to transcend the same day as Danny’s birthday, who died in 2022.
“Even in your last moments you gave us one last sample of that intense love. You yourself chose your day of departure… because you wanted to go give my brother Danny a hug.”
In his farewell, Martínez thanked him for the human legacy he left them.
“Thank you, mom, for every second of your life. Thank you for every hug, every advice, every prayer… thank you for teaching your five children that, no matter what happens, you have to get up and move on.”
The musician stated that his mother will be an inspiration in everything he does.
“From today on, I will miss you every day of my life… everything I do, from now on, will be for you and to honor the great legacy you left us.”
He concluded: “Rest in peace, mom, your pain is over.” The Martínez family receives support from fans and colleagues after the loss.
