New escalation in the Russia-Ukraine conflict
kyiv launched an action with drones against Russian energy facilities this Sunday. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed that its unmanned aircraft hit the Saratov oil refinery in southwestern Russia. The attack caused a large fire that local authorities are trying to control.
Moscow responded by accusing Ukraine of having attacked the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe. The Ukrainian government categorically rejected the accusation. “It is one more provocation from Russia,” said official sources in kyiv, without offering more details.
International concern about nuclear safety
The international community observes this escalation with alarm. Organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency have expressed concern about the risks faced by the Zaporizhzhia plant, amid the constant clashes in the region.
Images of the fire in Saratov were widely circulated on social media. So far no human victims have been reported, but the material damage is considerable. Russia called the action an act of aggression and warned that it will retaliate.
Both sides maintain their position. Ukraine insists that its attacks seek to weaken Russian energy capacity, while Russia denounces that Ukrainian operations put nuclear stability at risk. The tension continues to increase.
