The rivalry that was born on the networks
Days before the match between Mexico and England for the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, the competition was advanced on social networks. Liam Gallagher, vocalist of Oasis, predicted a rout for El Tri.
“I think we will beat Mexico 5-0,” he wrote in X.
The response did not take long. Fher Olvera, leader of Maná, responded with a video.
“Get your bearings, guy! 5 to 0? Calm down,” he said while showing the Mexican flag. “We’ll see each other on Sunday to see how it goes,” he added.
The comments on networks were divided between support for the man from Guadalajara and jokes. Users asked for a free concert in the Zócalo if Mexico wins.
Musical comparison: who wins?
Oasis has sold more than 100 million records; Mana exceeds 45 million. The British have seven Brit Awards; the Mexicans, four Grammys and multiple Latin Grammys.
In the repertoire, Oasis has classics such as “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger”. Maná responds with “Oye Mi Amor”, “Rayando el Sol” and “Clavado en un Bar”.
The musical score is a tie. On the field, the result will be known on Sunday, July 5 at the Mexico City Stadium.
