Sanction for doping
Mexican archer Mariana Bernal, 23, a member of the national compound archery team, was sentenced to a three-year suspension after testing positive for nandrolone, a banned anabolic steroid.
The International Control Agency (ITA) reported that the athlete admitted the infraction and accepted her responsibility, which allowed the sanction to be reduced from four to three years. The suspension runs from December 22, 2025 to December 21, 2028, which prevents him from competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
In addition, Bernal will lose the gold medal obtained at the World Cup in China last October, where he beat Andrea Becerra.
The ITA explained that nandrolone is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency for its effects on increasing muscle mass, strength and physical recovery.
The case of Mariana Bernal is one of the most relevant in Mexican sports in recent years. It is now up to the sports authorities to evaluate measures to prevent future violations.
