Analysis of the Economic Development Pole for Well-being in Huamantla
The Government of Mexico, in coordination with the state government of Tlaxcala, has formally announced the creation of a Pole of Economic Development for Well-being (PODECOBI) in the municipality of Huamantla. This project represents an investment estimated at 540 million dollars and constitutes a strategic initiative within the framework of Plan Mexico, whose central objective is to strengthen national production and the internal market.
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that this development vision seeks to generate economic growth with shared prosperity, which translates into the creation of well-paid jobs, the promotion of housing close to work centers and guaranteeing access to basic services, education and public transportation. This national planning model represents a paradigm shift in the country’s industrial policy, prioritizing internal production under the motto “What is Made in Mexico is better made.”
Technical characteristics and projected impact
The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, specified that the development pole will cover 53 hectares and will have investment projects from subsidiaries of Mexican, German and North American companies. According to official projections, the operation of this complex will generate approximately 6,000 jobs starting in 2026, marking a milestone in regional economic development.
The governor of Tlaxcala, Lorena Cuéllar Cisneros, explained that construction will conclude on February 28, 2026 and currently has six letters of intent in the purchase-sale stage. Among the investments already committed are those of Knipping Automotive, Integrated Services and Senior Management Administration of the United States, and the Mexican company Comercializadora Ragón.
This industrial hub is specifically designed to benefit families from historically lagging municipalities, promoting agribusiness and connecting it with cultural tourism. In addition, it will strengthen an educational and productive ecosystem through collaboration with higher secondary and higher education institutions, training young people with professional and technical education linked to the industries of the future.
Social and educational components
A distinctive element of this project is the construction of a Child Care and Education Center (CECI) in support of working mothers, reflecting a comprehensive development approach that considers the specific needs of the workforce. This measure seeks to facilitate the incorporation of women into the labor market and promote equal opportunities in the economic field.
The North American CEO of Knipping Automotive, Hugo Ruiz Blázquez, recognized the initiative of the President of Mexico to strengthen the national economy and expressed confidence that these efforts will boost the growth and prosperity of the industry and Tlaxcalan families.
Parallel to the announcement of the development pole, the decree that temporarily suspends the import of finished footwear was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, a measure designed to protect and promote the national industry in the face of external competition.
This project represents the development pole with the greatest progress among the 15 announced by the federal government, as confirmed by the authorities. Its implementation could mean a turning point in the economic development of Tlaxcala, reducing migration and strengthening roots in the communities by generating local job opportunities.
