Because nothing says “good morning” like a dead body in the street
Ah, Cuautitlán Izcalli, that picturesque corner of the State of Mexico where, in addition to strawberries and countryside landscapes, today you woke up with a little gift wrapped in plastic (and it wasn’t a sandwich). Yes, gentlemen, a body with signs of violence appeared in the Colonia Lomas del Rosario, because what better place to leave an intimidating message than next to the roses, right?
The “special” detail of the package
The victim, still unidentified (because of course, criminals are very considerate and always leave their ID), had head wounds and came with accessories including: plastic bags and, surprise!, a message of love (or terror, depending on how you see it). The authorities, excited as in a treasure hunt game, found him lying on a terrace near Avenida de los Gallos… ironic, because the only one who sang here was the deceased.
And like in every good police thriller, the Mexican Prosecutor’s Office arrived, picked up the body and took it away without further ado. ID? Nah, that’s for people with less imagination. After all, who needs names when you have a bagged body and a message that probably said “greetings to the family”?
Reflections that no one asked for
What does this macabre find leave us? That in Mexico, even garbage comes with sensitive content. That the “quiet” colonies are just a set for the next chapter of narcodrama. And if you are going to walk around Cuautitlán Izcalli, you better bring a detective kit… or a bulletproof vest.
Are you surprised? Of course not. This is already like the menu of the day: violence, impunity and a touch of morbidity. But hey, at least the photo in the note has a good angle.
