Another normal day in Mexico: drug message included
Because nothing says *”good morning”* like finding a guy hanging from a pedestrian bridge like he’s a postmodern scarecrow. This is how the Cuernavaca-Taxco federal highway dawned, in the La Islita neighborhood, where a lifeless man made his debut as an *artistic performance* of organized crime. The time? 1:25 AM, because drug traffickers also know that early morning is prime time for terror.
The outfit of the deceased (and other uncomfortable details)
The deceased—because saying *”corpse”* sounds very cold—was wearing the complete look: black t-shirt (classic), brown pants (would it be denim?) and matching shoes (coordination above all). But what really stole the show was the star accessory: tan tape on the face, because why show identity when you can be a mystery wrapped in duct tape? The tied hands and traces of violence completed the *seasonal design*.
And as every good drama needs its script, the authors—presumably a criminal cell with the pretense of screenwriters—left their signature: a message on cardboard. The content? State secret (or drug secret, which is almost the same). The authorities, experts in the art of *”we cannot confirm or deny”*, limited themselves to looking at the piece of paper as if it were a Netflix spoiler.
The protocol: forensic selfies and macabre bureaucracy
The dream team has arrived: Prosecutor’s Office, AIC and SEMEFO, because this is not just any crime, it is a crime with high-budget production. While the experts took selfies with the deceased (ok, maybe not, but someone probably thought about it), the body was lowered with the delicacy of someone unpacking an IKEA piece of furniture. Of course, the man is still in the top 10 of *”Who is he?”*, because not a clue to his identity. Kidnapped? Reckoning? Drug critic on Yelp? Who knows.
The only thing that is clear is that the federal highway is now a morbid film set, and the neighbors have a new topic for the WhatsApp group: *”Neighbors alert: another gift on the bridge”*.
