From TikTok to the countryside: the story of the guy who was a bush
Last Super Bowl, while Bad Bunny dominated the stage, something else was happening among the vegetation. They were not plants, but people. And one of them was Roger Gómez, a young Mexican who tells us how he ended up there.
It all started with an announcement on social networks. Yes, like the ones you usually ignore among memes and kitten videos.
“The discovery of the call occurred through TikTok,” explains Gómez.
But this wasn’t just any temporary job. The NFL was looking for specific types: between 5’7″ and 6’3″, athletic build, with strength to carry… a bush costume?
Exact. The suit weighed 18 real kilos. A heavy structure covered in synthetic grass that pressed on the shoulders.
“They put a piece of rubber (padded material) on it and that helped us a lot,” recalls Gómez about the adjustments they made after the first tests.
Two weeks for minutes on screen
The preparation was intense: rehearsals from Monday to Friday afternoons and weekend mornings. All under strict confidentiality.
When entering the stadium to practice, security took away phones, cameras and smart watches. No leaks.
During the actual show, contact with Bad Bunny was minimal but memorable. In a transition, the artist passed by and gave him a ‘high five’. That was it – the contracts prohibited any interaction that would distract the singer.
Regarding the rumor of the Mexican flag that appeared on the screen, Gómez clarifies: it was not him. But he celebrates having represented his country on that massive stage.
In the end, as the only material souvenir, the participants were left with… the hand pieces of the costume. The rest of the equipment was too bulky to take with him.
