It seems that the Red Devils of Mexico decided that 2025 was the year to shatter records as if they were piñatas on a millennial birthday. And no, we’re not talking about likes on TikTok, but about something much more epic: half a million souls shouting “BASEBALL!” at the Alfredo Harp Helú stadium. Yes, the Scarlets not only play, but they turn each game into a festival where the strikeout is the least of it.
From the Pingos to the Diablos: when baseball went *mainstream*
In 1967, the Pingos (yes, that was their name, I’m not kidding) set an attendance record at the Social Security Park with 536 thousand spectators. A number that sounded like an urban legend, like those rumors that the subway closes at 12. But in 2025, the Red Devils arrived with their 592 thousand attendees and said: “Hold my chela.” The secret? Combining victories, music and an atmosphere that makes the stadium look like the best party in CDMX (no lines for the bathroom, thank God).
As if that were not enough, they achieved it in a stadium with 5 thousand fewer seats and in only 41 games. In other words, the fans crowded together like in the subway at 8 AM, but with better humor and more beer. Lorenzo Bundy, the manager who lived through both eras, sums it up like this: “Before, 15 thousand people were like a miracle. Now, it’s a normal Tuesday.” And we add: a Tuesday with better wifi.
