A goodbye full of pain and complaints
After an agonizing wait, the lifeless bodies of Berenice Giles and Miguel Ángel Hernández were delivered to their loved ones, immersing their families in a sea of tears. Both lost their lives during the AX Ceremony 2025 Festival, an event that will be marked by tragedy and collective indignation.
The last goodbye to a lens artist
This Monday, April 7, in an atmosphere charged with heartbreaking emotion, family, friends and colleagues from the artistic world gathered to honor the memory of Berenice, a visual talent who immortalized Mexico’s cultural scene. Between sobs and hugs, his legacy was celebrated, but the irreparable loss weighed like a stone on every heart.
A close friend, whose name is kept in the silence of respect, shared a testimony that tears the soul: “Yesterday at the festival we could no longer see each other… I arrived late, without a signal, without being able to warn him of the danger. When the call came, it was too late. I ran to the hospital, where I only found despair and unanswered questions.” The words, broken by tears, reveal the anguish of an unexpected goodbye.
The moment that changed everything
Cruel destiny intervened at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, during the presentation of Meme del Real, by Café Tacvba. According to medical reports, the victims suffered catastrophic trauma from the collapse of a decorative structure. They arrived dead at the Dr. Rubén Leñero General Hospital, leaving behind only truncated dreams and a void that was impossible to fill.
While the families sank into the deepest pain, the festival continued, as if nothing had happened. The absence of transparency fueled the rage: no announcements, no protocols, just a complicit silence that lasted hours. It was not until 1:33 in the morning on Sunday when, in the shadows, the organizers confirmed what everyone feared: two souls had left forever.
The spark that ignited the protest
On Sunday, young people wounded by injustice took to the streets of Parque Bicentenario. With flowers, candles and banners, they demanded answers. “They are not accidents, they are negligence,” they shouted under a sky that seemed to cry with them. The FES Aragón community, where both studied, became a beacon of resistance.
While Berenice was being watched between flashes and sighs, her mother, still abroad, and her father, traveling from Aguascalientes, faced the most painful trip of their lives. For his part, Miguel received his last tribute in Iztapalapa, where the entire neighborhood dressed in mourning.
How will the mobilizations continue? Journalists, photographers and citizens promise not to let this case fall into oblivion. The fight for justice is just beginning.
