Susana and Elvira: friendship without competition comes to Netflix

Mabel Moreno explains how the character of Elvira transformed her vision of women and friendship.

The return of Susana and Elvira

Mabel Moreno once again put herself in the shoes of Elvira, a character that not only marked her career, but also transformed her way of understanding women. The Colombian actress speaks enthusiastically about the film “Susana y Elvira: Sin plan B”, which is now available on Netflix.

The story began in 2008 as a blog written by María Fernanda Moreno and Marcela Peláez. Then came the books, a web series and now a movie. In this new installment, Susana and Elvira, two friends separated years ago, must meet again to organize a wedding.

“Today, women at 40 have the money, we still have the youth, the desire, the energy, the strength, the depth; we are less afraid to talk about what is happening to us and where we are going,” says Moreno in an interview.

For the actress, the success of this story lies in the fact that it shows real characters, far from the perfection that used to dominate female stories. The public seeks to see itself reflected in women with doubts and contradictions.

“Elvira was a woman who gave me a lot of understanding of women in general and interest in the feminine world… From then on I felt that all my characters had to communicate something to women,” she remembers.

The film breaks the cliché that women are meant to compete with each other. Instead, celebrate friendship as the most important love.

“The beautiful thing about this film is that, although it is a romantic comedy, it is not a woman looking for love as a couple. It is a woman who has already found love in her best friend,” she explains.

With almost two decades of history, Susana and Elvira demonstrate that audiences value authentic stories about mature women who live without labels.

The singer and his wife are expecting a girl named María, as they announced on social networks.

Carlos Rivera and Cynthia Rodríguez will be parents for the second time. The couple announced the pregnancy of a girl, whom they will call María.

The singer shared the news on Instagram with a message full of emotion. “We asked you like a miracle, and faith made us look for you,” he wrote, taking up a fragment of “What does love mean?”, a song he composed for his firstborn, León.

An advertisement full of symbolism

Along with the text, they published an image showing a blanket, a knitted outfit and a rose, elements that indicate that they are expecting a girl. The hands of Carlos, Cynthia and León, two years old, also appear stacked.

The celebrities did not wait to reveal the baby’s name. Written with petals, it reads “Mary.” “In our hearts we kept your space and we love you even without knowing you… Here we are waiting for you with immense enthusiasm. Mom, Dad and León,” they added.

Reactions and new roles

The news was celebrated by figures such as Anahí, El Capi Pérez, Andrea Meza and Ximena Navarrete. Everyone congratulated the couple on the new member of the family.

León is preparing to be an older brother. He was born when Carlos and Cynthia had already fulfilled several dreams. Now, Mary arrives at a stage of stability and fulfillment for marriage.

Rivera has shared in interviews how fatherhood transformed his life. In April, during a talk with “Despierta América”, he confessed that he would “love” to have another child, although at that time he was not thinking about names. The wish was fulfilled.

First studio album after ten years of career

Vino el Viernes, a Mexican band that has been active for more than a decade, is preparing to release Claroscuro, its first studio material. The album brings together 10 songs composed over five years, from “A lawaite” (2020) to the song of the same name.

To celebrate, the group will play live on July 24 at the Rebel Rebel Forum, Juárez neighborhood in Mexico City. During the evening they will perform the entire album and other representative songs from their repertoire.

In addition, they will put the physical edition on sale in CD format for attendees.

Letters born from the pandemic

Chiaroscuro arises from the emotions left by the health crisis: desolation, uncertainty and hopelessness. Musically, it combines nostalgic acoustic ballads with the power of Spanish rock, including riffs, guitar solos and elements of Mexican folklore.

The lyrics maintain an introspective tone, exploring the search for meaning and human dissatisfaction. The band remains faithful to its style, but with a polished production that reflects its artistic maturity.
