Humberto Busto returns to Venice with a drama about age and diversity

25 years ago, Humberto Busto debuted on the big screen with Amores Perros. He played the friend of the protagonist, who died in the shock that opened the film.

Today, the actor — known for series such as The Secret of the River and Nobody is going to miss us— is preparing for the Venice International Film Festival. There he will present Tijuana, still, a film that he produces and stars in.

What is it about? It follows a man about to turn 50 years old. His life takes place between a gay choir and a car wash. Forced to leave his home, he turns to an app for sexual encounters between men. This is how he meets a queer Russian who lives in a hostel.

The film is up for the Queer Lion Award, an award that recognizes LGBT themes. Last year the national production On the Road won it.

“I met the director more than two years ago, at the Guanajuato festival and I saw that we had many things in common. There is concern about how rights, with the conservative waves, have gone away; another is how it seems that after the age of 35 you stop having value, there begins to be discrimination because there is a preponderance of the cult of youth and that is something that is manifested in many LGBT films. Then we began to mix things up for the film,” says Busto.

The film was developed at the Biennale College Cinema, the competition’s training laboratory that supports low-budget feature films. During the Mostra it will have performances and, although it cannot compete for the top prize, it can compete for the Queer Lion.

Busto highlights that it is the result of several years of work with his company Fosfo Producciones, created with Guz Guevara. The objective: “return control of the narrative to people of diversity, broaden the spectrum of topics.”

After Venice, Tijuana will still look for more festivals. It already has a distributor (Colmena) and will apply to public funds.

The cast includes Miry Rodríguez, Dilan Rvera, Elliot Roy Rensky and Jorge Domínguez Cerdá.

Goodbye to Kaylee Hottle

Ketsi Hottle said goodbye to her daughter Kaylee, an actress known for her role in “Godzilla vs. Kong”, with a photo in front of the sea. They both appear smiling. The young woman died at the age of 18 in a car accident in Maryland, United States.

What happened?

The young woman’s father, who played Jia in “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” confirmed the news through a video on Facebook.

“I am taking a flight I would never have wanted to take,” he wrote, explaining that he was traveling from Texas to Maryland to claim his daughter’s body on Tuesday, July 21.

According to reports, Kaylee was traveling with two other companions. The car went off the road and fell into a ditch. Authorities indicated that excessive speed was a contributing factor, after hitting a culvert.

Kaylee was taken to a hospital, where she was confirmed dead. The 19-year-old driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The third companion refused medical attention.

The crash remains under investigation by Frederick County.

Bellakath out of reality

Although rumors circulated about her participation, the singer Bellakath will not be part of the new season of “The House of the Famous Mexico.” Producer Rosa María Noguerón confirmed that the “Gatita” interpreter was considered, but the negotiations did not come to fruition.

“With Bellakath we have not been able to close; however, she is a personality that interests us very much. She is one of the most important singers of the urban genre. She is a very talented woman,” declared Noguerón during the program’s press conference.

The announcement occurs after Bellakath published a message on social networks that many interpreted as a clue to his entry into the reality show: “Don’t pay for ViX until next year, hehehe.” The new season will premiere on July 26 on Las Estrellas and will have continuous transmission through the ViX platform.
