Sophie Turner inherits Lara Croft’s suspenders on Prime Video

The Queen of the North trades Winterfell for the ancient ruins. Amazon's million-dollar bet to resurrect an icon.

From Winterfell to the ancient tombs: the definitive career twist

It seems that Sophie Turner decided that surviving Game of Thrones wasn’t epic enough. The former Sansa Stark, who apparently misses having to dodge deadly dangers, has been officially confirmed as the new Lara Croft in the upcoming Prime Video series. Because, of course, what better way to demonstrate your acting versatility than changing medieval skirts for adventure shorts?

After months of rumors that circulated faster than a Valyrian arrow, Amazon decided to end the suspense. The British actress will put on the hiking boots of the most famous archaeologist in the world of entertainment, following in the (huge) footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Luckily for Sophie, Lara’s straps are quite adjustable.

The creative dream team behind the nonsense

And this is where things get really juicy. At the helm of this creative circus is Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the mastermind behind Fleabag, who apparently decided that writing about emotionally complicated women was too boring. Now he will be in charge of turning a British aristocrat into a killing machine that unearths ancient artifacts. Impeccable logic.

Waller-Bridge will not only be the creator and head writer, but will also serve as executive producer and co-showrunner along with Chad Hodge. Because why have one person for each position when you can have one person doing everything? Capitalist efficiency at its finest.

“I am excited beyond words to play Lara Croft. She is such an iconic character, who means so much to so many people, and I am giving everything I have. These are huge shoes to fill, following in the footsteps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerful performances.” – Sophie Turner, Actress

Translation: “I’m terrified but the check was too good to turn down.” Honesty is conspicuous by its absence, but who can blame her.

Direction and the tortuous path to production

To direct the first episodes we will have Jonathan Van Tulleken, fresh from Shōgun. Because nothing says “natural transition” like going from feudal Japan to a British woman with twelve guns looting ancient temples.

The project, like any Hollywood production, has had more plot twists than a Venezuelan soap opera. After the initial announcement three years ago, the series went through not one, but two writers’ rooms without final scripts being approved. Apparently, writing about a woman who solves ancient puzzles while avoiding deadly traps is more complicated than it seems.

Turner’s own schedule also called into question the start of filming, finally scheduled for January 2026. Because coordinating the life of an international star is as easy as deciphering an old map to El Dorado.

The rigorous statements that we all expected

Waller-Bridge, in a press release oozing corporate enthusiasm, stated: “I am so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team.” The word “formidable” here is particularly delightful, considering the last time we saw Turner wielding a gun was… well, never really.

The creator added: “It’s not very often that you get the opportunity to do a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving.” Which begs the question: Did Phoebe Waller-Bridge really grow up loving a video game heroine? Or did you just love Amazon’s juicy cheap deal?

The golden punch line: “Everyone involved is incredibly passionate about Lara and is as wild, brave and fun as she is.” Because nothing says “bravery” like signing a million-dollar contract to adapt a world-known franchise. How reckless!

The uncertain future of a reinvented icon

So here we are, waiting for what Prime Video has in store for us. Will Turner be able to fill out those jean shorts that have defined generations? Will Waller-Bridge manage to inject her acidic and biting humor into a character who has traditionally been known more for her physicality than for her dialogue?

One thing is certain: with a budget that is probably equivalent to the GDP of a small country, visual effects that will cost more than the entire archaeological endowment of the British Museum, and a leading actress with everything to prove, this production promises to be as extravagant as the adventures it aims to narrate.

Meanwhile, fans are speculating: will we see Lara Croft facing dragons this time? Will he have to navigate the political intrigues of Seven Kingdoms? Would you bet an arm and a leg on Sansa Stark finally getting the combat training she always deserved?

Take out your artifacts, indeed. And prepare for another round of endless debate over whether the chosen actress has the right bust for the role. Because in the end, on the Internet, that’s what really matters, right?

Aurelio Casillas returns as the Mexican John Wick in the final season

Rafael Amaya returns as Aurelio Casillas in the final season, with scenes reminiscent of John Wick.

The farewell of an icon

Aurelio Casillas is back. The final season of The Lord of the Skies will start on July 7 on Telemundo, and the trailer is already sparking comparisons with John Wick.

Rafael Amaya, 49, once again heads this story inspired by Amado Carrillo Fuentes, leader of the Juárez Cartel. The series, which began in April 2013, has 10 seasons of betrayal, power and action.

Reactions and expectations

In the trailer, Aurelio appears looking for his daughter Rutila Casillas (Carmen Aub). Fans were quick to compare him to Keanu Reeves’ character:

“Aurelio Casillas is the Mexican John Wick.”
“The action scenes are at cinema level.”
“The real John Wick of Mexico is back.”

Amaya is excited about this final closure. Although many asked for the return of Víctor Casillas, alias “Chacorta” (Raúl Méndez), that did not materialize.

The series promises scenes of hand-to-hand combat, use of weapons and survival strategies. Without a doubt, an ending worthy of his legacy.

Swift and Kelce: their wedding will include two celebrations in July

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are preparing two events to celebrate their wedding.

The final stretch towards the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce is already underway. According to The New York Times, which cites an entertainment industry executive and another person close to the preparations, the couple would hold two events in July.

Two days of celebration

An intimate ceremony with around 100 guests would take place on July 2. The next day, the big party would be held with at least a thousand attendees and possible live performances. So far, neither the artists nor their representatives have confirmed the information.

Media such as Page Six and TMZ report that the wedding will be in New York, a city where Swift has a property. It is speculated that Madison Square Garden could be the venue, unconventional but functional due to its multiple entrances to maintain privacy.

Logistics details

Page Six also notes that the invitations would have been delivered personally to avoid leaks. Kansas City Chiefs teammates booked into the Marriott Marquis hotel for those dates. A wedding in Rhode Island was initially planned for June 13, but was postponed after leaks.

George Kittle, Kelce’s NFL teammate, revealed that a condition of the event would be no gifts. In addition, an organizing company requested the closure of streets around the stadium and the installation of a tent.

Kelce and Swift got engaged in August 2025, after starting their relationship in 2023.
