Sheinbaum reaffirms Mexico’s historic alliance with Cuba

The president highlights the continuity of a strategic alliance and humanitarian support that transcends governments and political situations.

A Bond That Transcends Time and Circumstances

Hello, community with a global vision! Today I want to share with you a powerful reflection on consistency and commitment in human relationships and, in this case, between nations. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has reminded us of something fundamental: the political alliance and collaboration between Mexico and Cuba is not something ephemeral; It is a historical connection, a bridge of brotherhood that has been strengthened throughout different administrations, regardless of the partisan flag. This teaches us that true bonds are built with vision for the future and maintained with solid principles. Let’s celebrate that ability to see beyond the immediate!

When asked about the hydrocarbon supply, the president was clear and transparent: each action is framed within legality and is part of an energy and financial cooperation of decades, with a deep sense of human solidarity. “This is done within a legal framework that corresponds to us as a sovereign country and we continue a series of supports that have been given historically,” he stated. Isn’t it inspiring to see how technical assistance and support become tools to transform realities and overcome adversities?

Lessons of Solidarity and Strategic Vision

The current collaboration, which involves Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), is the continuation of agreements that include technical, financial and energy assistance. To understand its magnitude, we must consider the context of the economic embargo that the island has faced. Even in the most challenging moments, like in 1994, Mexico participated with an investment of 350 million dollars to modernize the Cienfuegos refinery! That is turning challenges into opportunities for joint growth.

History continues to show us examples of strategic generosity. In 2012, letters of intent were signed for Pemex to provide its expertise to the Cuban state company Cupet. And in 2013, the Mexican government demonstrated enormous understanding by forgiving 70% of a historic debt, restructuring the rest to promote bilateral trade. Each of these steps is not just a transaction; It is a seed of trust and mutual progress that is sown with faith in a better future.

When reviewing the chronology of presidential meetings, from Luis Echeverría and José López Portillo, through Carlos Salinas de Gortari after the fall of the Soviet Union, to the meetings in recent six-year terms, we see a common thread: Mexican diplomacy has maintained its course. “The Mexico-Cuba relationship is historic. Mexico was the only country that opposed the blockade from the first moment,” Sheinbaum stressed. This state tradition, firm and principled, inspires us to be constant in our own values and in supporting those who need it most.

Beyond the political situation, this cooperation represents a deep-rooted diplomatic tradition and a permanent act of humanitarian solidarity with the Cuban people. It is a powerful reminder that when we act with conviction and empathy, we build legacies that last. Our actions, no matter how small they may seem in the moment, can be part of a much larger story of positive transformation.
