The big board of infrastructure: this is how Sheinbaum moves chips
The numbers are compelling, but behind every kilometer there is a political move. President Claudia Sheinbaum today displayed the map of her most tangible commitment: connecting Mexico on asphalt. Announced 360 km of new or modernized roads, 4,500 km repaved and 78 bridges completed. The master figure: 315,331 million pesos injected.
“What do we want? More work for the people, to improve people’s lives. And at the same time have the country more connected,” he stated in his morning conference.
His speech mixes development with a narrative of national unity. It’s not just cement; It is the fabric that, according to her, should unite the territory. Secretary Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina detailed the item: 113,347 million pesos for Priority Axes that will intervene 2,485 km. There are emblematic projects such as the San Ignacio Tayoltita highway, already completed.
Bridges that are political statements
The list of bridges under construction reads like a tour of the states. Each one with its percentage of progress and promised delivery date:
- Nichupté in Quintana Roo at 97%.
- Golden Ripple in Chiapas at 88%, for September.
- The Glorieta de las Mujeres Libres in Baja California Sur at 85%, by the end of April.
They are works that seek visual and media impact. But there is also a race against time due to the October rains. This month, reconstruction begins on 396 sections and 94 damaged bridges in Hidalgo, Veracruz, Puebla, Querétaro and San Luis Potosí.
The star program, MegaBachetón, has a historic investment of 50,000 million pesos. The goal: serve 40,548 km of the federal network. To date, they say they have repaired nearly 29,000 potholes. To do this, they mobilize thousands of machines and workers, a logistics operation that they present as unprecedented.
The strategy is clear: show frenetic activity on all fronts. From modernizing highways such as Zitácuaro-Maravatío (which would finish in 2026) to new bypasses. Each announcement is a token placed on the electoral board of the future, a promise of connection that seeks to translate into concrete support.
