An epic clash between power and money
In a twist worthy of the most ardent political soap operas, Claudia Sheinbaum, the president of Mexico, has launched a historic ultimatum against the business giant Grupo Salinas. With the fury of a storm and the determination of a leader who does not back down, she demanded that the Supreme Court of Justice resolve, before time runs out, the 32 pending lawsuits that accumulate the astronomical figure of 74 billion pesos in evaded taxes. Yes, 74 billion! A sum that could change the destiny of millions.
The judicial battle that strains the threads of power
In the morning conference, converted into a court of public opinion, Sheinbaum not only exhibited the fiscal management of Ricardo Salinas Pliego‘s companies, but also challenged the acting ministers not to rule against the people. “I don’t think they dare,” he declared with a mixture of warning and hope, while the clock is ticking: the current Court has until September 1 to decide. Afterwards, it will be the new ministers who inherit this judicial fireball.
The Fiscal Attorney of the Federation, Grisel Galeano García, revealed that three key files, for 26 billion pesos, are ready to be voted on. “There are few sessions left,” he warned, in a suspense that keeps the country in suspense. Will the Court rule in favor of the treasury, or will it allow Grupo Salinas’ strategy of endless resources to triumph once again?
Meanwhile, the magnate Salinas Pliego did not remain silent. From the screens of TV Azteca, his media empire, he accused the government of systematic harassment and “fiscal extortion.” A duel of narratives where each word is a weapon, each number a missile. Who is right? The people wait, while the public coffers cry out for justice.
A strategy of delays and shadows
Sheinbaum exposed what he called “the evader’s manual”: stop paying, flood the courts with resources and prolong trials to infinity. “One after another,” he denounced, while revealing how these tactics have allowed the conglomerate to avoid its obligations for 16 years. Will this be the end of impunity? The president trusts that it does, but the outcome is in the hands of the Court.
The scandal becomes even more entangled with cross accusations: the government suggests that TV Azteca‘s criticism of judicial reform is a smokescreen to distract from the debts. Grupo Salinas, on the other hand, alleges that they are duplicate charges to cover the “gaps in the Pharaonic works of the past six-year period.” A drama where no one gives in.
The clock keeps ticking. Court sessions are exhausted. The people watch. And in the midst of this whirlwind, a question floats in the air: who will win this epic battle between political and economic power?
