“It’s not speculation, it’s scientific proof”
President Claudia Sheinbaum came out this Thursday. With the spotlight pointing to the accident of the Interoceanic Train, he defended tooth and nail the opinion of the Prosecutor’s Office. There is no room for theories, he says. Hard data only.
“The information is not speculation, it is scientific proof,” he stated from the National Palace.
His argument is steel: everything starts from the black box. That device that recorded, second by second, how the train was traveling at excess speed before the derailment. The prosecution didn’t just read the numbers. He reconstructed the drama with mathematical simulations that considered every curve, every bank.
Two detainees and a promise
The judicial script already has its first arrested actors: the driver and his supervisor. Sheinbaum was clear in marking the path ahead.
“Of course there will be justice for the victims,” he stressed.
But here there is a second act pending. Another ruling is missing to formally close the case. Meanwhile, authorities keep the passenger train out of service. It will not roll again until it is absolutely certain that everything works.
The president painted a picture where science is the judge. Where graphics and simulations are the main witnesses. In this political theater, Sheinbaum bets all his chips on a technical report. He hopes the public—the citizens—will believe the evidence more than the rumor.
