The prosecutor changes the version and Sheinbaum points to irregularities
“Yes, they were working together,” Claudia Sheinbaum released this morning. The direct phrase contrasts with the previous statements of the Chihuahua prosecutor, César Jauregui, who first said one thing and then another. The case: two US embassy instructors killed in an accident after an alleged operation against clandestine laboratories.
The president did not bite her tongue. He pointed out that the prosecutor changed his statement and that what exactly those agents did and what agency they worked for is now being investigated. From the CIA, as The Washington Post suggested? “If you want more time, we will inform you,” Sheinbaum responded, with that calm that worries more than a shout.
“Yesterday the Chihuahua prosecutor changed his statement and we are investigating what these people were doing and what agency they were from. Until now the information we have is that they were working together”
This is where the issue bites. Because if there was joint work between Chihuahua and foreign agents, was the protocol followed? Sheinbaum was clear: any coordination must necessarily go through the Federation. Direct treatment is not worth it.
The prosecutor’s version: a chance meeting and a change of story
Meanwhile, in Chihuahua, prosecutor Jauregui was trying to square the circle. First he said that US agents did not participate in the laboratory operation. He then explained that they met the convoy of the State Investigation Agency (AEI) by chance, asked for a ride because they had a drone flight and… tragedy occurred.
“They had a flight on Sunday morning from the city of Chihuahua and asked for collaboration to travel with the caravan”
Convenient, right? Two foreign agents asking for a ride in the middle of the night in a complicated area. Sheinbaum announced that it will be reviewed whether there were violations of the Constitution or the National Security Law. Because of course, the important thing here is not only how they died, but what they did there.
Governor Maru Campos, by the way, has not even contacted the National Palace. Another detail that adds to the lack of coordination puzzle.
The only thing that is clear is this: there are contradictory versions, a prosecutor who rectifies and a president warning about the legal frameworks. The rest is official condolences and investigations to come. As usual.
