Sheinbaum and the revocation: A political drama with a taste of déjà vu
It seems that in Mexican politics we are living a chapter of “Everything has happened before and everything will happen again”. After a march by the Generation Z that, between slogans and Instagram stories, rescued the flag of the revocation of mandate, our president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, came out. His favorite setting: the morning conference at the National Palace, that morning reality show that already has its fandom and its haters.
With the calm of someone who says “I saw it coming,” Sheinbaum insisted that, of course, he is going to subject himself to this figure. The underlying reason? He made it clear that “we will never be a burden on the people”. Sounds good, right? Like that friend who assures you that it won’t be a problem on the trip, but you already know how those stories end.
The revocation: An original idea or a political rehash?
The president was clear, or at least as clear as can be in the world of politics. He stated without hesitation: “The revocation of the mandate is our slogan, the one who proposed it was President López Obrador, the one who brought it to the Constitution was President López Obrador and of course I am going to subject myself to the revocation of the mandate because that is what the Constitution says”. In other words, so that there are no doubts: this is an in-house invention, not a TikTok trend.
But here comes the plot twist, because in the political universe plot twists are the order of the day. Sheinbaum dropped a pearl that deserves a cinematographic analysis: “Imagine! Now it turns out that the opposition brings it as if it had been their demand, no, it is our decision”. It’s the political equivalent of someone claiming the meme you created three years ago as their own. Pure cultural appropriation, but in Congress version.
And while he reviewed the Wellness programs like someone listing the achievements on his LinkedIn profile, he also left us a spoiler for the future. He announced that 2028 will be a “busy” year, a great euphemism for what will probably be an electoral whirlwind. Its closing phrase, “Let the people say what they want!”, sounds like the open invitation of a reality show where the audience has the remote control. Who stays in the presidential residence? Your votes will decide.
In short, we are facing a move that mixes partisan loyalty, political heritage and a pinch of generational drama. Sheinbaum, with his characteristic style, is setting the rhythm of a dance that promises to make us sweat until the last beat. The message is clear: the ball is in our court, but we all know the rules of the game.
