Deputy Sergio Mayer confirmed his departure from Morena. In his statements, he attributed the decision to an atmosphere of abuse within the party and the lack of support from different internal currents.
“The existence of multiple currents generates internal conflicts and crossfire between militants,” explained the legislator.
Mayer assured that his resignation does not imply a break with the Morenoist bench in the Chamber of Deputies. He clarified that he will continue to vote in favor of the ruling party’s initiatives, as he supports the federal government’s proposals.
The weight of the reality show
One of the factors that generated criticism was his request for leave last February to participate in a television program. The deputy acknowledged that this was a mistake, but denied that his departure sought to evade legal accusations.
Mayer also questioned the role of political parties, which he called “a necessary evil.” He defended his right to express opinions within the movement without being considered a traitor to either the party or the Presidency.
