The pause is in the script
The Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado, has just given the official flag. Starting next Monday, March 30, the country’s classrooms will be silent. Almost 29 million students in basic and upper secondary education will begin their Easter break.
It is a massive movement, choreographed months in advance in the 2025-2026 School Calendar. It is not an improvisation, it is the plan that governs the 32 states.
The numbers behind the curtain
The magnitude is overwhelming. We are talking about 23.4 million students and more than 1.2 million teachers. All of them, belonging to more than 231 thousand public and private schools, from initial to secondary school.
“They will suspend classes starting March 30 and will resume activities on Monday, April 13,” Delgado reported.
But the function doesn’t stop there. At the high school level, another 5.5 million students and 421 thousand teachers will do the same. Its more than 21 thousand schools will also go on pause.
For higher education, the script is different. The SEP indicated that the authorities of each of the more than 11,700 institutions will determine the periods for their 5.6 million students and 529 thousand teachers.
It is the scheduled intermission. The moment when the educational machinery takes a breath before the final act of the school year. Everything is written, now it’s time to execute it.
