Decision without media confrontation
Senator Javier Corral reported that he is withdrawing the challenge presented against the investigation that the CDMX Attorney General’s Office is carrying out against the governor of Chihuahua, Maru Campos, for an alleged arrest attempt that occurred on August 14, 2024 at the Gin Gin restaurant in the Roma neighborhood.
His legal firm explained that the decision responds to “the media and political use of the case.” In a joint statement, they noted that Corral “will not contribute to the misrepresentation of the legitimate exercise of her rights” and refused to join what they called the governor’s “campaign of media victimization and political manipulation.”
The office also accused Campos Galván of acting with “double standards”: in CDMX he describes the process as political persecution, while in Chihuahua he presents it as an exoneration. In addition, they pointed out that there is “information distortion” about the events of August 14.
Despite withdrawing the challenge, Corral maintains that “the setup against Javier Corral does not begin or end there.” The complaints for “the various crimes committed against him” continue before the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
The statement ends with a call to thoroughly investigate both sides: the accusations against the administration of former governor Corral and the factious use of institutions by the current government of Chihuahua, guaranteeing due process and the presumption of innocence.
