Rocha Cantú criminal network businessman obtains property protection

A judge grants a precautionary measure on an insured property, in the midst of a complex investigation into organized crime and money laundering.

A Protection in the Middle of the Legal Storm

In a twist within a highly complex judicial process, the businessman Jorge Enrique Alberts Ponce, identified by the authorities as a key member of the criminal network linked to Raúl Rocha Cantú, has achieved a protection measure. Through a recourse for protection, he requested and obtained a provisional suspension so that a property that was insured by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) would not be alienated while his legal situation was resolved.

The Eighth District Judge in Criminal Matters in Mexico City, Rubén Darío Noguera Gregoire, was the one who granted this determination. The court order specifies that the property must be maintained in its current state, prohibiting its sale, auction or any disposition by the Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Matters of Organized Crime (FEMDO). This decision does not absolve the accused, but rather freezes the status of the property within the framework of the investigation for federal crimes.

The Accusation and the Alleged Modus Operandi

According to the documents in the FED/FEMDO/FEITATA-QRO/0000082/2025 investigation folder, Alberts Ponce, alias “Yoryi” or “Licenciado”, is considered one of the main operators of the organization. The authorities affirm that his radius of action covered Querétaro and Mexico City, where he managed a network of fictitious companies or front companies.

The objective of these corporate structures, according to the FGR, was twofold: on the one hand, to facilitate the illicit trafficking and marketing of firearms to groups such as the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), the Gulf Cartel and the Unión Tepito. On the other hand, they served to fraudulently bill security and custody services, laundering money. Among the companies mentioned are SEGURIMEX Goods Marketer, Private Security Land Services (SETER) and Dinámica Seguridad Privada Consultores.

The investigation details a sophisticated dispossession scheme to obtain real estate. The methodology consisted of identifying apparently abandoned properties, occupying them with surveillance personnel and, subsequently, managing fraudulent deeds with the alleged complicity of public notaries and officials of the Public Property Registry. These assets, obtained illicitly, were then used as collateral to request million-dollar bank loans. It is estimated that through these maneuvers it was possible to accumulate assets valued at approximately 160 million pesos.

Implications and Pending Charges

The impact of this investigation extends geographically and in the fight against organized crime. Jorge Enrique Alberts Ponce is currently facing an arrest warrant in force for serious crimes: organized crime in its criminal form, trafficking in weapons for the exclusive use of the army and theft of hydrocarbons (known colloquially as huachicol). The case exemplifies how criminal structures intertwine with the formal business world, using legal tools for illegal purposes.

The granting of amparo over the property is only one chapter within this extensive legal process. It underlines the importance of due process and the legal remedies available to any defendant, even in cases of complex crime. The final outcome will depend on the evidence presented by the Attorney General’s Office and the final resolution of the district judge on the merits of the matter. Meanwhile, the precautionary measure guarantees that the asset in question remains under the control of the authority, although without being alienated, pending the ruling that determines its final destination.

This case continues to develop and is a reminder of the challenges represented by organized crime networks with the capacity to infiltrate economic and legal sectors. The resolution will set a significant precedent in the prosecution of property crimes and money laundering linked to organized crime.

Occupation traffic light for massive events in CDMX

MC legislators propose a system similar to that of Jalisco to avoid crowds.

Federal legislators from Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) are promoting a proposal to implement an occupation traffic light in public spaces in Mexico City. The measure seeks to prevent incidents during mass gatherings, especially ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Proposal for CDMX

Representative Laura Ballesteros pointed out that what happened during the celebrations at the Angel of Independence could have been avoided with better planning and risk management. For this reason, he asked to adopt a system similar to that of Jalisco, which reports the occupancy level in real time using colors.

The traffic light – green, amber or red – would allow attendees to know the capacity available in each area and decide whether to enter or wait. Ballesteros maintained that the security strategy should not be limited to placing screens to distribute to the public, but rather include a comprehensive civil protection plan.

The proposal is presented as a tool to prevent incidents such as that of the Angel of Independence from being repeated. With the 2026 World Cup, CDMX will receive massive events that require clear protocols.

Morena deputy urges combating huachicol as a State priority

Morenoist legislator proposes reforms to stop fuel theft that caused million-dollar losses in 2024.

Morena’s vice coordinator in the Chamber of Deputies, Alfonso Ramírez Cuéllar, stated that the fight against illegal fuel extraction must become a State priority. He assured that the impact of this crime affects national security, public finances and the development of the country.

Legislative proposals

The legislator pointed out the urgency of promoting legal and administrative reforms, as well as toughening criminal sanctions against the networks that operate this crime. He explained that these structures use corruption, front companies and money laundering. He highlighted that the aim is to improve fuel traceability, reinforce surveillance in customs and pipelines, and strengthen controls throughout the distribution chain.

Figures of the problem

Ramírez Cuéllar recalled that, according to data from Petróleos Mexicanos, in 2024 approximately 987 million liters of fuel were stolen. This represents million-dollar losses for Mexico and a high share of illegal fuel in the national market. He argued that combating this phenomenon is key to strengthening public finances and legality in the energy sector. By doing so, he said, the collection, security and well-being of the population will be improved.
