Roberto Cantoral’s children present tribute album

The children of the famous composer revive his immortal work in a new format, while preparing an audiovisual project that will reveal unpublished stories.

A Musical Tribute to the Legacy of an Immortal Composer

The figure of Roberto Cantoral stands as one of the most influential in the history of Mexican composition. To honor his vast artistic legacy, his sons Itatí, José and Roberto have produced the album “Regálame esta noche”, a compilation that brings together his most emblematic works. This recording project works as a bridge between generations, preserving the melodic and poetic richness of a repertoire that has defined eras.

The origin of this production dates back to a commemorative concert held at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, where the elite of national singing, including voices of the stature of Eugenia León, Fernando de la Mora and Javier Camarena, performed iconic pieces such as “La Barca”. This event was not only a recital, but the seed of a meticulous recording effort that seeks to capture the essence of Cantoral’s work for posterity.

The Timeless Value of a Classic Repertoire

The official presentation of the album took place in an intimate event before colleagues, the press and personalities from the musical field, such as the singer Paco de María. This artist, who has performed several of Cantoral’s compositions throughout his career, highlighted the importance of new generations rediscovering this cultural heritage. In his own words: “It is very nice that new generations are given the opportunity to sing these songs that are very worthwhile, that have another type of art, of poetry and a musical level… something that I hope comes back, comes back a lot.” This reflection highlights the lyrical depth and harmonic complexity that characterize the maestro’s songbook, elements that transcend ephemeral tendencies.

The evening, held at the cultural center that bears the composer’s name, served not only to present the album, but also to reflect on the validity of his legacy. Cantoral’s songs are not mere memories of a bygone era; They are living works that continue to dialogue with contemporary audiences, offering an emotionally charged listening experience and an aesthetic refinement that is uncommon in current musical production.

Future Projects: From Book to Screen

During the presentation, the artist’s heirs, José and Roberto Cantoral, announced an ambitious complementary project: the production of a documentary series about the composer’s life. Although a biographical book was recently published detailing their career, the brothers confirmed that there are numerous anecdotes and unknown passages that deserve to be brought to the screen. José Cantoral explained: “Here it comes (the documentary). My brother Roberto has just released the book with my father’s story, but there are two or three anecdotes that are not there and that could be very good in a series.”.

This audiovisual initiative promises to offer a deep and human look at the author of “The Clock”, exploring facets of his personal life and his creative process that remain in the private sphere. The goal is to build a comprehensive narrative that not only celebrates their successes, but also reveals the stories behind their creations, thus enriching the public’s understanding of the genius behind the music.

The combination of the album “Regálame esta noche” and the future documentary represents a comprehensive effort to consolidate the musical heritage of Roberto Cantoral. It is not just about looking to the past, but ensuring that his contribution to Mexico’s cultural heritage continues to inspire and educate future musicians and audiences. This double project acts as a lasting testament to an artist whose work remains a fundamental pillar of the region’s sonic identity.

Gael García Bernal: ‘It’s going to be difficult for them to beat Mexico’

The Mexican actor trusts in the solidity of El Tri in the World Cup and remembers his love for Pumas.

Gael García Bernal is passionate about soccer and has been a fan of the UNAM Pumas for decades. 25 years ago, in And your mother also, he wore the university team’s shirt. Later, he took his passion to the movies with Rudo y cheesy, where he played a soccer player.

His vision of the Mexican National Team

Today, the actor closely follows the World Cup and the path of El Tri directed by Javier Aguirre, already installed in the round of 32. Regarding the national team, Gael commented to EL UNIVERSAL:

“I see her very well. The only certainty I have is that it will be difficult for them to beat her, I don’t know if Mexico can win (laughs), but it will be difficult for them to beat her.”

He also highlighted the strength of the team:

“They will have to play a great game, (the Mexican team) is very solid, we are playing like never before in terms of defense, tactics, technique, there is a good job and let’s see how far it goes.”

The historic El Tri Pass

Mexico had a perfect group stage: three wins and zero goals conceded, something unprecedented in its history. They beat South Africa (2-0), South Korea (1-0) and Czech Republic (3-0). That earned him first place in the group. Their rival in the next round will come from among the best third places: Ecuador, Uruguay or Escucia are the candidates.

The duel will be played on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Mexico City Stadium, formerly known as Azteca.

Loyal to the Pumas since 1991

Gael’s love for the Pumas was born in 1991, when he and his friend Diego Luna went to the CU Stadium to see the team win the championship against América. Since then he has not stopped supporting them. In the last final of the Mexican tournament, where Pumas lost to Cruz Azul, Gael recognized the merit of his rival.

The merchant stood between them and asked the attacker to calm down, explaining that the tourist did not speak Spanish. During the struggle, phrases such as:

“Don’t record here, your father’s son… No, he’s recording me, take out your cell phone.”
