Robert Lewandowski is already in Chicago. The Polish forward, with more than 600 goals in his career, joins the Chicago Fire of the MLS as a franchise player. His arrival marks one of the most relevant signings in the history of the Illinois club.

A historic signing

Chicago Fire coach Gregg Berhalter called the addition a key moment for the team and the league.

“This is a historic day for Chicago Fire FC, and also for the city and for MLS. I want to thank Robert for choosing Chicago. He is a huge signing for our club. Not only is he an extraordinary player, he is also an incredible person. Robert is the piece that will take us to the top,” declared the American strategist.

Lewandowski explained that his decision to leave Europe was complex, but his relationship with Barcelona played a role.

“For a few months I knew that I wanted to come here, but it took me a while to make the decision because it is something completely new for me and my family. I didn’t want to play for any other club in Europe after Barcelona; I couldn’t imagine myself in another team outside of Barcelona,” shared the Pole.

The attacker has already completed his first training session with the team after a long trip from Poland. He said he felt good and ready to adapt.

Imminent debut

Lewandowski sees potential in the Eastern Conference as a whole. “I’m here not only to play, but to help the team take a step forward on and off the field,” he said. His possible debut would be this Thursday against the Vancouver Whitecaps in the resumption of the MLS.

Cruz Azul returns home. La Maquina will play this Tuesday, July 21 at the Banorte Stadium for the first time after the 2026 World Cup. It will be against Puebla on date 2 of the Apertura 2026, with the added bonus of doing so as the current champion.

The match was brought forward because the team will play the Champion of Champions against Toluca on Saturday, July 25 in California. The duel is scheduled at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on Vix and TUDN.

Golden double for Mexico in the Diving Cup

The last day of the Mexico Diving Cup was an unforgettable day for the country. The twins Mia and Lia Cueva inaugurated the metal harvest with an outstanding performance in the synchronized trampoline.

Supported by family and fans, the Mexicans grew during the competition and beat one of the world powers. With 298.65 points, they surpassed the Chinese duo of Shan Lin and Yiping Long (282.57). Colombia took bronze (277.47).

“I am very happy, it is the first time we beat the Chinese and that is a great motivation to do it also in the Olympic Games,” Mia declared after the victory.

Minutes later, Randal Willars and Kevin Berlin stepped onto the 10-meter platform. The Olympic duo showed impeccable synchronization and highly difficult executions. They extended their lead dive after dive and secured first place with 414.72 points.

Mexico closed the Cup with two gold medals, confirming its dominance in the discipline for future international commitments.

Frustrated return

Conor McGregor confirmed that he suffered a torn right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus damage during his UFC 329 fight against Max Holloway. The fight, held on July 11, lasted just 1:09.

The Irishman compared this injury to the one he suffered in the opposite leg against Holloway in 2013.

“Update: it was ACL and meniscus. It’s the same injury as in the first fight with Holloway, only this time on the opposite leg. Pretty shocking,” McGregor wrote in X.

His return to the Octagon after a five-year absence ended abruptly when he fell awkwardly while attempting a kick in the opening seconds. The 38-year-old tried to continue, but the fight was stopped after falling to the canvas two more times.

McGregor underwent surgery last week and is now walking without crutches. He hopes to return to the octagon in 2027.

“Back then I returned to compete in 9 months to fight Diego Brandao. With current advances in regenerative medicine and improved training methods, it is totally within my possibilities to return for next summer,” he added.
